What’s it about? Neighbourhood Watch (NW) helps people get together with their neighbours to take action to reduce crime. It can also be about tackling quality of life issues and building community spirit.
In Woodmancote Neighbourhood Watch is operating in 14 streets. If your street does not have a scheme, would you be willing to become a co-ordinator and set one up?
Woodmancote NW Co-ordinators WhatsApp group. Julian Wellings runs a useful WhatsApp group that shares recent or currently occurring crime in or near their street with other Woodmancote NW Scheme co-ordinators. The other co-ordinators can then inform their members. If you are a Co-ordinator and want to join the scheme, email Julian on jw@julianwellings.com with your name, scheme name (i.e. roads covered) and mobile number.
You Can Join NW as an Individual If there is no scheme operating in your street you can sign up as an individual (https://members.ourwatchmember.org.uk/join). You can say what information you would like to be sent, such as alerts about recent crimes in your area and home security advice.
The benefits of joining or starting a NW Scheme include:
- Showing that members of the community are looking out for each other and are keeping an eye on each other’s property.
- Keeping members up to date with what’s going on in their area via the Community Alerts messaging system.
- Enabling members to learn about straight forward crime prevention measures that can be applied at home.
There is lots of information about setting up and running a scheme at https://www.ourwatch.org.uk/
The Gloucestershire Neighbourhood Watch Officer, Lucy Yearsley, can also offer advice. Lucy can be reached on 01452 754630 or by email to lucy.yearsley@gloucestershire.police.uk.
