Woodmancote nestles comfortably below Cleeve Common, the largest common in Gloucestershire. The escarpment raises steeply from the lower slopes of the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The Common is a conservation area and Site of Special Scientific Interest for its geology, habitats and botany and it contains a wealth of archaeological interest, including three Scheduled Monuments.
The Cleeve Hill Golf Club, offers a challenging 18-hole course. When the wind blows, hard balls can carry off in all directions and even back to the tee! Weary travellers from the nearby Cotswold Way can also stop and enjoy a drink and good food here, from either the Cafe or the Restaurant.
The Common is run by a group of Trustees as a charitable Trust. Trustees, also known as Conservators, are representatives from local Parishes and Boroughs and the Landowner.
Cleeve Common Trust has a wonderful team of volunteers that help to manage the Common for wildlife and people. There are a number of volunteering opportunities available, please visit Get Involved — Cleeve Common to find out more.
The views from the Common are spectacular, on a good day you can see the black mountains, with the Severn Vale below.
We are so lucky to have the Common so close and partly in our Parish.
